The Chamber of Commerce
(and why we think it’s important to be part of  it)

No man is an island. It’s a well-known saying (originally from John Donne’s devotions in 1624), and it still rings true today. The essence of the quote is literally how much we all depend on each other, and the same applies to the world of business. No company or organisation can exist without a number of other things in place. In order to be successful, you need:

Clear aims (Without these – why are you in existence?)
Excellent products (if you make rubbish – eventually word gets out!)
A good sales team (otherwise nobody would know what you’re selling)
A transparent way of working
Dedicated people within the company, with detailed knowledge.
The list goes on…..!

And at the core of it all is people. Which is why we think it’s important to belong to our local Chamber of Commerce, in order to extend our reach and do things well.

Good business is all about networking.

It’s why we attend trade shows (see our earlier blog on Subcon), and the Chamber allows us to continue this work. It’s where we got to tell people about what we do, to make contacts, learn to market ourselves in new ways, keep up with business legislation – and a whole host of other things.

For example – thirty years ago, a company wouldn’t have had to think about cyber crime,  but now you do. And in response to this changing landscape, there was a recent seminar for members on just this issue. Contrast this with another workshop on export documentation (how to ship cost-effectively) – and it gives you an idea of just how valuable the Chamber’s services are to businesses, especially in during the Brexit changes.

The Chamber uses the slogan ‘Belong, Connect, Communicate’ – with the aim of strengthening its members numbers, and indeed, what we can achieve as a growing team. It’s an authoritative voice of business, with links that reach far out of the Black Country, into Government. And now we have voted to leave the EU, all business people will benefit from being part of a stronger team, when it comes to negotiations abroad. And we hope too, that our customers will see that, by being members, we really do mean good business.
